THE DESIGN FOR RECYCLING CHALLENGE IN HEALTHCARE

The Design for Recycling challenge in the healthcare sector aims to promote environmentally sustainable solutions for consumer health products. Currently, the majority of waste produced by the healthcare sector is non-hazardous and can be recycled, but collecting and sorting this waste is a challenge for hospital staff. In the consumer health segment, there is a pressing need for environmentally sustainable solutions, particularly in the area of oral solid dosage products. Blister packaging is a priority for many pharmaceutical companies, and they aim to replace commonly used PVC/Al structures with recyclable ones. Borealis has offered a Bormed™ PP medical grade alternative for blisters for over 20 years, which is designed for recycling while maintaining the packaging integrity, drug safety, and shelf life.
